How complete is your locomotion practice?
Parkour is that rare discipline that develops in its practitioners the competent use of all the (land-based) human locomotion patterns.
• Vaulting
• Brachiating
• Jumping
• Rolling
• Crawling (quadrupedal)
• Climbing
• Running (bipedal)
By locomotion I do not mean movement: locomotion is to travel, to change location through movement. And travel over variable terrain is the fundamental function of our body and brain.
Not only does parkour develop these patterns to a high degree of complexity, it requires you to implement them in an endlessly adaptive manner – resulting in continual challenge and therefore continual growth.
This leads to phenomenal variability of the locomotion patterns, which is the highest level of skill application.
So if you, or your children, want to be athletic… add parkour to your training.
You will understand this best through practising.
